Portland Jobs: City Parks & Recreation Looking To Hire Hundreds

Portland Parks & Recreation Hopes has hundreds of job openings – from life guards to urban forestry, from part-time to full-time.

PORTLAND, OR —Like the outdoors? Need a job? Portland Parks & Recreation might be able to help.

Parks & Recreation has hundreds of job openings available. They include full-time and part-time, seasonal, working as a lifeguard, working for the urban forestry section.

Currently, their Aquatics department has around 115 instructors and lifeguards, they said, For the summer season, they will need at least 750.

The recently passed Parks Local Option Levy gave Parks & Recreation to reopen pools and community centers as well as provide the money to it waive the cost of the lifeguard training course and certification.

Those costs have been a "big barrier for those who cannot afford it," according to a spokesman for the bureau. "The levy allows us to remove cost as a barrier to participation."
