- The SheBrew Festival, celebrating female-owned beer and cider brands in Portland, will be held at The Redd in Portland's Central Eastside on Mar. 5 and will feature more than 40 professional brewers and six homebrewers. Organizers Shannon Scott, Jenn McPoland, and Christine Garcia ensure that it will be a family-friendly event, featuring activities such as a photo booth and games, and the event is also a fundraiser for the LGBTQ+ civil rights organization Human Rights Campaign. Tickets are $5 at the door. (KOIN.com)
- Employees at Living Room Theaters in Portland formed a new independent union, United Cinema Workers, after winning the election 6-4. The vote was a result of organizing efforts that began in December after a worker was fired, which staff believed was an unfair labor practice. Despite voluntary recognition from management in January, tensions leading up to the vote arose when CEO Steve Herring called a mandatory staff meeting and expressed his personal opinions on unionization. - The Friends of Baseball fundraiser on Thursday night helped benefit the nonprofit's after-school and summer programs for children in and around Portland. The organization is dedicated to using baseball and softball as tools to mentor and provide opportunities for kids to play the games. The fundraiser included a game of catch with John Scukanec, who recently completed 365 days of having a catch, and special guest Bob Kendrick, president of the Negro Leagues Museum in Kansas City, who spoke about the power of baseball to identify passion and provide opportunities for all children.
