Abington Hosts Pre-National Night Out Block Party Aug. 2
The program, taking place today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., will include a special guest appearance by a local World War II veteran.

ABINGTON, PA, — Community members are invited out tonight to mingle with local law enforcement officials during Abington Township’s Pre-National Night Out event.
Being billed as “an evening of fun for the whole family,” the program, slated to take place Aug. 2 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., will include presentations by the police department’s tactical and K9 units, the traffic safety unit, the Montgomery County Detective’s Forensic Unit, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and the Pennsylvania State Police.
Fire department personnel will also be on hand for demonstrations and to answer questions.

A special guest at this year’s event is also expected to make an appearance. Ronald Scarinci, a 98-year-oldl World War II U.S. Marine veteran who had participated in the invasion of Okinawa, is scheduled to perform during the program, according to a post on the Abington Police Department’s Facebook page.
In the social media post, Scarinci is referred to as a friend of the police department.

The event will take place in the parking lot of the Target at the Abington Town Center, located at London and Old York Roads. The rain date for the program is tomorrow, Aug. 3, during the same timeframe.
The program is considered Abington’s “Pre-National Night Out Block Party,” since the National Night Out event takes place the first Tuesday evening in August in cities and towns across the country.
National Night Out is a nationwide program designed to enhance community relations between local law enforcement and citizens.
