New Stop Signs Are Getting Installed At Three Intersections In Abington Township
The stop signs are designed to help with traffic safety in parts of the community.

ABINGTON, PA — Abington Township Police are warning motorists to be on the lookout for new traffic control devices in parts of the municipality.
New stop signs will soon be installed at three intersections in the community: Edgley Avenue at Oakdale Avenue; Elliott Avenue at Crestview Avenue; and Woodland Road at Cumberland Road.
The Edgley/Oakdale Avenue intersection is located in the township's Glenside section; the Elliott/Crestview Avenue is located between the Roslyn and Willow Grove neighborhoods; and the Woodland/Cumberland Road intersection is between the Roslyn and Rydal sections of the township.

Some residents took to social media to express reactions to the stop sign installation. Some agreed they were needed, others said there are more dangerous intersections that should be addressed, and yet others said stop signs are not enough to help with traffic problems and safety in the region.
"Here's an idea, let's invest in smart traffic lights!" Dianne Keefe Krol wrote on the Abington Police Department Facebook page. "Why is it that the side streets crossing Susquehanna and 611 as examples, are sooooo long. Our whole system needs a look."

Others said that stop signs are not enough, since motorists often do not fully stop at them regardless of their placement.
Another commenter said that the township should be looking at reducing speed limits on certain roads throughout the township, since many drivers exceed the posted speed limits on many neighborhood streets that are used as cut-through thoroughfares.
"It should not take a death to fix," posted Jan Harris. "SLOW DOWN!!!"
