Abington Parks & Rec Offers Beginner's Camping Workshop This Coming Weekend
A beginner's camping workshop, open to Abington residents only, will be offered overnight from Sept. 25 to 26. It will teach the basics.
ABINGTON, PA — Are you someone who enjoys the idea of the outdoors, but who never really ventured outside enough to enjoy the actual act of being out in nature itself?
If you live in Abington Township, you may want to consider taking advantage of a beginner's camping course taking place this upcoming weekend.
Abington Parks and Recreation employees will soon be leading a workshop, open to township residents only, designed to teach the basics of camping out in nature.

The program will kick off this coming weekend, beginning on Sept. 25 at 1 p.m., and ending on Sept. 26 at 11 a.m.
Two sessions will be offered — one during the daytime only, and the other during the overnight hours — so you can choose whether or not to actually sleep outdoors, or simply learn the basics in preparation for an overnight excursion some other time in the future.

"Whether you're a first-time camper or just getting back into a tent, you'll enjoy this informative workshop as we dive into the basics of tent camping," reads a description of the program by the township. "Tent camping is a great way to enjoy nature with your family and friends, but knowledge and preparation can make for an even better experience."
Guides will school participants on topics such as packing for a camping trip, setting up tents, building a fire, cooking meals and more.
Dinner will be included during Saturday's session; snacks will be included both Saturday and Sunday while those participants who stay overnight into Sunday will additionally be treated to breakfast.
Participants will also be given instruction on how to properly cook meals over an open fire.
The cost to participate is $65 for up to a family of four, with an additional $10 charge per added participant. All participants who plan to attend must register.
The township says that a minimum of three families is needed to run this program. The deadline to sign up is this Thursday, Sept. 23, at 4 p.m.
