Tyree Darnell Lawson, 42, of Philadelphia, is accused of attacking a woman in Abington Township on Feb. 10 during a road rage incident.

ABINGTON, PA — A Philadelphia man is being charged by Abington Police with assaulting a woman earlier this month in the Jenkintown section of the township during what has been described as a road rage type incident.
Tyree Darnell Lawson, 42, is facing numerous felony and misdemeanor charges after local police say he punched a woman in the face and smashed her cellphone following an incident just after 8 a.m. on Feb. 10 in the parking lot of the Fox Pavilion.
According to police, the woman had driven into the parking lot from Old York Road after an "enraged motorist" began tailgating her.

As the victim pulled into the lot, Lawson pulled his car around and blocked the woman's path of travel, police said in a community bulletin.
Lawson then allegedly approached the victim's car, and when the woman lowered her window, Lawson punched her in the face, grabbed her cellphone from her lap and smashed it on the ground before fleeing from the scene, police said.

Abington detectives were ultimately able to identify a suspect following an investigation and Lawson ended up turning himself in to authorities on Feb. 22 after an arrest warrant had been issued.
Court records show that Lawson was arraigned on Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge James P. Gallagher.
Gallagher scheduled a preliminary hearing for March 2.
Lawson is being charged with two separate felony robbery counts as well as misdemeanor counts of simple assault, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief.
Lawson posted bail following his arraignment, according to court records.
