Art Exhibit Ends, Butterflies and ‘August,’ This Week

Check out a few events happening this week in Abington.

On Tuesday, July 23 at 6:30 p.m., the Abington Library will host a “Wimpy Kid Party” for kids ages 8 through 12. The event is for fans of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.” Click here for more information.

The Abington Art Center will host the rock band August on Thursday, July 25 at 7 p.m. as part of the art center’s Summer Concert Series. Grab a blanket and bring your family and friends to enjoy summer evenings filled with great music on the Sculpture Park’s Susquehanna Bank Stage. The 2013 concert series is co-presented with Abington Township Parks and Recreation and sponsored by PECO. Cost is $5 for adults; free for children.

The Abington Library, as part of its “A Year of Austen in Books and Films,” will hold a discussion on Jane Austen’s “Emma” on Thursday, July 25 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Stop by (having read the book). Click here for more information.

Katie’s Foundation for Child Safety, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting children by “increasing the awareness to parents of the hidden dangers that present themselves in everyone's home,” will hold its fifth annual Butterfly Release on Saturday, July 27 at 11 a.m. at Abington Senior High School. SundayJuly 28 is the last day of the Summer edition of the Solo Series at the Abington Art Center. Though it’s called “Solo,” the exhibition features the work of several local artists, including: painter Nic Coviello of Philadelphia; photographer Cindy Masiejczyk of Philadelphia; sculptor Daniel Ostrov of Philadelphia; and photographer Keith Sharp of Media.
