Bruno Hits the Water
An update on Bruno, the English setter who was hit by a car earlier this month in Abington.
Bruno, the 3-year-old English setter who recently received emergency surgery following a run-in with a car in Abington, started hydrotherapy at Bucks County VETS.
“Bruno got his stitches and staples out so he’s ready for the water,” Russ Diamond, of Bucks County VETS, said in an e-mail. “Dr. Lucyk spent a lot of time with Bruno [Thursday] morning and had him doing some exercises outside and then in hydrotherapy. He’s favoring his right hind leg (the one that was broken) and she’s working on getting it back to working shape.”

The dog suffered a large laceration on his right leg, two fractures of his pelvis, and a severely fractured right leg. Earlier this month, he had successful surgery at Veterinary Referral Center in Malvern and is expected to make a full recovery after several weeks of therapy. He will then be put up for adoption.

Bruno was discovered last Saturday, July 6 in Abington.
He was taken to Rau Animal Hospital where one of its veterinarians, Dr. Mark Fox, then drove the dog to Bucks County Emergency Vets.
Someone claimed the dog, but Diamond said the owner had just recently adopted the dog, and was unable to pay for the surgery. The owner then signed the dog over to Bucks County Vets — the alternative would have been euthanizing the dog, Diamond said.
According to Diamond, Bucks County Vets then reached out to VRC in Malvern, where a board-certified surgeon agreed to take care of the dog at a discount.
The dog will spend about four to six weeks in recovery, and then will likely be put up for adoption.
"We’re going to help him get better through therapy,” Diamond said. “He’s a great looking dog. It’s hard to tell his personality right now, because he’s in so much pain, but he just looks like a wonderful dog that’s been through a lot.”
