Car Catches Fire at AMH Parking Garage
Fire crews extinguish an early-morning car fire at an Abington Memorial Hospital parking garage.

An employee’s vehicle caught on fire shortly after 6 a.m. on the second level of a parking garage near the corner of Horace and Old York roads.
“Between 6 and 6:05, an [Abington Memorial Hospital] employee was walking to the garage near Horace and York and noticed smoke and flames coming from under a vehicle,” Abington Assistant Fire Marshal John Rohrer said.
Abington Fire Co., which is a stone’s throw from the garage, was first dispatched. Because the car, a Buick Regal, was parked near other vehicles, an engine from Roslyn and Weldon fire companies was also called. It took about 10 minutes to put the fire out, Rohrer said, and the fire was contained to Regal.

The vehicle was unoccupied and there were no injuries.
Rohrer said it appears that the fire started near the Regal’s engine bay. It is not suspicious, but it is under investigation.
