DVRPC Jobs Forecast: How is Abington Doing?

The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission releases its jobs forecast study

 

It looks like the number of jobs, and the number of peoole in Abington will remain steady.

According to a recently released study by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, Abington is projected to have 32 more jobs in 2015 than it did in 2010. If you wait around until 2040, there will be 676 more jobs compared to 2010 — an increase of 2.2 percent.

The study, which was approved by the DVRPC board at its September meeting, lists the projected population and employment figures for each municipality in the region in 5-year increments in an interactive map.

“Employment in the Greater Philadelphia region is expected to increase by almost 11 percent between 2010 and 2040, according to DVRPC forecasts. The region's five southeastern Pennsylvania counties are expected to gain almost 236,000 additional jobs over the 30-year period …”

By comparison, Cheltenham Township had 15,353 jobs in 2010, is projected to have 21 additional jobs in 2015, and 439 more jobs in 2040 — an increase of 2.9 percent over 2010.  

According to the DVRPC, there were 55,310 people living in Abington as of 2010. The population is estimated to increase negligibly in 2015 and is projected to increase by 2.2 percent by 2040.
