Willow Grove Park Mall Reopens After Evacuation

Authorities responded to a fire at the mall in Abington Township on Tuesday.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — The Willow Grove Park Mall was evacuated on Tuesday due to a fire at a store for several hours before reopening later in the day, authorities said.

The mall was evacuated due to smoke conditions in the building from an outside fire. The fire has been extinguished, and the fire department is still on scene venting the building.

At 12:28 p.m. Tuesday, the Roslyn Fire Company, along with numerous mutual aid agencies, responded to a trash compactor on fire at the mall, the Abington Township Fire Department said.

The mall was evacuated as standard procedure for this type of incident. The fire was contained to the compactor.

Authorities said the mall us now fully open, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Abington Township Fire Marshal's Office.
