GLENSIDE, PA — The property developer overseeing the construction of a new Wawa store in Glenside recently provided a community update on the project to residents who are being affected by the ongoing work.

In a letter to Glenside residents, which was posted online, developer Bruce Goodman said that his team has encountered unexpected delays in the project, and he apologized to neighbors who might feel the effects of the prolonged construction.

"As you know, over the past several weeks we have encountered a couple of events, including power interruptions and noise disturbances, which have negatively impacted the local community," Goodman wrote in the letter, which is dated Jan. 24. "We apologize for these events and assure you that we are working with all our partners to avoid similar issues as this project continues."

Goodman also said during construction, his team discovered a duct bank belonging to PECO, which is a concrete-encased conduit, that must be relocated as part of the ongoing work.

Goodman said he offered to move the duct bank himself, but PECO declined, with the utility saying it had to perform the work itself.

Because of his unanticipated issue, Goodman said he anticipates that the closure along West Waverly Road will be extended beyond the originally planned 45-day timeframe, with the closure now expected to stretch an additional four to six weeks.

"We apologize for this delay, and assure you that we will work safely and diligently to complete the road realignment portion of this project as quickly as possible," Goodman wrote.

Cheltenham Township posted Goodman's letter to its website, as it has a section dedicated to the Wawa project being built at Waverly and Easton Roads.

Glenside sits between Cheltenham and Abington Townships, with the new Wawa being constructed on the Cheltenham side.
