Historic Hiway Theater Facade Needs Repairs

JENKINTOWN BOROUGH, PA —The Hiway Theater has served as a landmark entertainment institution in the borough for 111 years.

While the theater on Old York Road offers features throughout the year like its Sci-Fi Film Festival, classic movies of years gone by, and holiday movies, it sometimes needs support to keep its facility operating.

The movie theater's facade needs repairs.

"Our historic facade needs to make critical repairs to the masonry and stone to prevent further water damage," the theater said in a Facebook post. "Help us keep the lights on in this historic theater and ensure that we can continue to entertain and inspire generations of future Jenkintownians."

The theater launched a fundraising campaign which wrapped up at the end of the year.

"We had an amazing 2024. Thanks to your support. For 111 years, the Hiway Theater has been a community treasure," the theater said.

Officials said that ticket sales let the theater screen the hits, but it’s the memberships and donations that provide more adventurous programs and special events like the $5 Family Matinee Series, Classic Screenings, Terrorthon, and Sci-Phi Fest.

Meanwhile, the $5 Family Matinee Series returns on January 18th with an animated hit the whole family can enjoy— TROLLS!
