Holy Redeemer Hospital In Abington Gets A $2 Million Grant To Renovate Cancer Center

The money comes from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which is administered through the Pennsylvania Office of the Budget.

ABINGTON, PA — Holy Redeemer Health System has received a $2 million state grant to aid with an expansion of its cancer center.

The money was given out through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which is a program administered through the Office of the Budget that helps with the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.

Holy Redeemer's grant dollars will go toward an expansion of its cancer center.

According information from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, the hospital's project involves renovating 2,300 square feet of existing space and adding an additional 1,760 square feet. This second phase of the project also includes the construction of a Linear Accelerator Vault, which is a thickly encased concrete and steel vault that provides radiation shielding during patient cancer treatments.

Construction during the project will include site preparation, renovation, and the internal fit-out for the LINAC Vault, according to the program.

The Holy Redeemer project was among a handful of local projects through the funding program that were announced by the office of State Sen. Art Haywood, a Democrat whose 4th Senatorial District includes Abington, Cheltenham and Springfield Townships, along with Rockledge Borough, in Montgomery County, and parts of the City of Philadelphia.

In total, Haywood said his district received $15 million in RACP funding for a variety of local improvement projects.

"Investing in local building project improvements is not just an investment in the infrastructure of our communities, it is an investment in the people who make our communities succeed," Haywood said in a statement. "From improving local access to healthcare, to preserving historic landmarks and increasing access to the arts, this funding serves our communities now and will help lead us to a successful future."

Holy Redeemer Hospital is located on Huntingdon Pike in the Meadowbrook section of Abington Township.
