The Limekiln Pike Bridge Over SEPTA's Regional Rail Will Close To Traffic This Weekend
The Limekiln Pike bridge, which was recently completed, will close this weekend while crews remove the old AQUA water bridge.

ABINGTON, PA — Local officials are warning of a traffic disruption this weekend and into next week as crews work on a popular roadway.
The Limekiln Pike (Route 152) Bridge will be closed in both directions from 3 p.m. Nov. 13 until 8 a.m. Nov. 14 for the removal of the existing AQUA water bridge, according to Abington Township.
The closure will be between Willow Grove Avenue and Mount Carmel Avenue.

During the closure, Limekiln Pike motorists will be detoured over Mount Carmel Avenue and Easton Road, according to the township's traffic alert.
The road closure, which affects both Abington and neighboring Cheltenham Township, is connected to a project to rehabilitate the Limekiln Pike bridge that carries traffic over SEPTA's regional rail line.

The bridge improvement project, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, was driven by the need to address the bridge's deck and superstructure, which had both been rated in serious condition due to deterioration and severe cracking that were discovered upon a past safety inspection.
The original bridge was built back in 1959 and had a posted weight limit of 12 tons.
The new bridge, which will have no weight limit, was built by Neshaminy Constructors, Inc. with more than $3 million in federal funds. Local and state officials recently celebrated the completion of the new bridge project.
