An Upper Moreland man pleaded guilty earlier this week to burglary charges for his role in an early morning burglary of a house in the 900 block of Susquehanna Road about two years ago.

As previously reported in Abington Patch, Gentile Sr. was arrested on Sept. 6 along with his then-18-year-old-son, Jason Gentile Jr., at about 12:40 a.m. after residents at the Susquehanna Road home called police after they heard an intruder, according to Abington Deputy Chief John Livingood.

“The residents heard a noise, woke up and called 911 immediately,” Livingood said. “We got there quickly, and [the suspects] were arrested in the act.”

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a green Jeep Laredo parked behind the home with its engine running. The Jeep was occupied by Gentile Jr., police said; he was taken into custody. His father was taken into custody when he exited the house.

According to police, both Gentiles removed an electric meter from the home and placed it in the Jeep. Gentile Sr. then entered the home through a broken window in the rear of the house and was in the process of removing items from the house that he wrapped in a sheet, police said.

Livingood said that police found an unloaded pellet gun in the bowl of a toilet in the house. He said that the gun does not belong to the homeowners and added that one of the suspects may have ditched it there.

Gentile Sr. was also sentenced in a hit-and-run crash in Upper Moreland in July 2011 in which he allegedly crashed into a vehicle in the 400 block of West Moreland Road, according to the Phillyburbs.com story.
