Meadowbrook School Students Comfort Hospital Patients
Students presented hand-made gifts to Abington Memorial Hospital patients.
As part of a community service initiative, 12 Meadowbrook School students accompanied Headmaster David Stephens, along with school representatives, to Abington Memorial Hospital to provide comfort-based gifts to patients.
The gifts, presented last week, were created by the students as part of Meadowbrook’s Choose Your Own Adventure Program.
“At Meadowbrook, a core component of our educational mission is to ensure that every one of our students understands the importance and value of community service. Our dedicated faculty and staff consistently weave the lessons of humanity toward others throughout the curriculum on a yearlong basis,” Stephens said.

As part of this year’s program, the fourth, fifth and sixth graders made fleece ponchos, scarves and shawls for patients in the older adult specialty unit. They also made “caped comforters,” which are small dolls that help to ease the anxiety of young children who are staying in the emergency trauma center. The older Meadowbrook students also presented the hospital with a photo book called “Words with Meadowbrook,” created using iPads.
First through third graders created get well cards and bookmarks, and also decorated tote bags for the children in the pediatric unit. Meadowbrook kindergarten students also participated by decorating plastic cups for the older patients, who can place their hearing aids within the cups so as not to lose them.
