CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — Cheltenham High School students were dismissed early Wednesday due to a power surge at the school, officials said.

School officials said the high school experienced a power surge at 12:04 p.m. Wednesday. At 12:08 p.m., the fire alarm went off.

School officials said the building was safely evacuated, and all students are accounted for.

Several fire companies responded and discovered after an inspection that a small motor on a ventilation duct had caught fire. The power has been shut on the unit, officials said.

The fire companies that responded are searching the building to determine whether any additional issues or concerns exist.

As a result, Cheltenham High School students were dismissed at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

All after-school activities for this evening are canceled as well.
