Learn What Montco Democratic Lawmakers Think About Trump Tariffs
Democratic lawmakers in eastern Montgomery County are speaking out about the Trump Administration's federal government moves.

EASTERN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA —Democratic lawmakers are speaking out about President Donald Trump's tariff decisions and how they are impacting everyday Americans.
"Virtually overnight, people in my district — and all across the country — saw their 401Ks, college savings accounts, and other investments disappear because of the President’s reckless tariffs and inconsistent behavior," U.S. Rep. Madeleine Dean said. "I will continue fighting back."
President Trump instituted across-the-board tariffs on countries, especially China, in launching a trade war that he says will balance the playing field.

On Thursday, Trump changed course and instituted a 90-day suspension on those tariffs, escept for China.
"The federal government's recent actions have raised widespread uncertainty about their impact on our communities," State Rep. Melissa Cerrato said. "Like many of you, I have questions about how these developments will affect our state, especially as we navigate the budget process amidst uncertainty. Although federal decisions are beyond our jurisdiction, my colleagues and I are working to maximize state resources and authority. Our shared goal is clear: to safeguard and support the residents of our communities."

State Sen. Maria Collett is also speaking out about moves by the Trump Administration.
"I'm disgusted by the President's illegal plan to eliminate the U.S. Department of Education with an unconstitutional executive order. Though executive orders are not law, they can still do irreparable damage to our students, their families, and our educators," Collett said. "For students with disabilities, dismantling the Dept. of Education means fewer special education teachers in the classroom, less inclusive classrooms, and parents scrambling to cover the costs of intervention services their children are entitled to. Destroying the Department of Education will not change your kids' curriculum, improve learning outcomes, or put money back in your pocket. States and local school districts are already in charge of public education. This order is nothing but a scheme to disrupt public education so it's easier to privatize and enrich the President's billionaire buddies."
