Synagogue Threat Investigated In Cheltenham
Cheltenham Police received a report of a man entering a synagogue with a rifle on Thursday afternoon.
CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —Cheltenham Township Police have said that a report that a man entered a synagogue Thursday afternoon carrying a rifle was unfounded.
At about 2:24 p.m. on Thursday, Cheltenham Police received a report of a man with a gun at an area synagogue, which was not named by police.
The alert was due to an automated weapon detection system that flagged a person entering the synagogue as carrying a rifle.

Police officers reviewed the surveillance footage and determined that a person had entered the synagogue carrying what appeared to be a rifle
Multiple police units from across the Philadelphia region responded.

Police said the initial identification of a weapon was determined to be unfounded, and the object was benign.
There were no injuries, and the scene was cleared, police said.
