3 PA 'Dive Bars' Named Among Best In U.S. For Food

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Three Pennsylvania "dive bars" have been named among the best in the United States for food, according to a new ranking.

Tattooed Mom in Philadelphia was the highest-ranked Pennsylvania establishment on the list. It came in 23rd out of 120 dive bars compiled by Geek Nexus, a personal finance and pop culture website. Also making the list was Uncle 80's Dive Bar in Hazleton (94th) and Dirty Ol' Tavern in Lancaster (109th).

To determine which businesses made the list, Geek Nexus surveyed 3,000 bar-goers to find the top dive bars serving "surprisingly good food."

"Dive bars have always been about community and character, but now they’re becoming known for their unexpectedly great food," Jake Valentine, operations manager of Geek Nexus, said in a release.

"The results of our survey highlight just how diverse and creative dive bar menus have become, proving that you don’t need a fancy setting to enjoy a standout meal," he continued. "From inventive burgers to iconic local flavors, these bars are redefining what it means to eat well on a budget."

Tattooed Mom, located on South Street in Philly, serves up a variety of cocktails and casual food, including sandwiches and snacks. There are several vegan options on the menu, including the vegan hot Nashville chicken sandwich. See the menu here.

Uncle 80's Dive Bar has dozens of Google reviews, and has a score of 4.8 stars. In the review comments, people rave about the food, service and atmosphere. "Hands down the ABSOLUTE COOLEST bar anywhere in the area," one reviewer said.

"Best burger i’ve ever had in my life! wow!," another said of Uncle 80's.

Dirty Ol' Tavern has more than 400 Google reviews with a 4.3 score.
