The Best Elementary Schools In Eastern PA: See New U.S. News Rankings

U.S. News & World Report this week released its rankings for the best elementary schools in Pennsylvania and across the nation.

In Pennsylvania, the highest-ranked public elementary school is Pleasant Valley Elementary School, which is in the Peters Township School District near Pittsburgh. However, several Philadelphia-area schools made the cut.

The following Philadelphia-area schools were listed among the top 50 public elementary schools in the state:

• Merion Elementary School, Lower Merion School District (Ranked 8th)
• Ithan Elementary School, Radnor Township School District (Ranked 9th)
• Stony Creek Elementary School, Wissahickon School District (Ranked 11)
• Gladwyne School, Lower Merion School District (Ranked 13)
• Pickering Valley Elementary School, Downingtown Area School District (Ranked 16th)
• Hillside Elementary School, Tredyffrin-Easttown School District (Ranked 18th)
• Beaumont Elementary School, Tredyffrin-Easttown School District (Ranked 21th)
• Rose Tree Elementary School, Rose Tree Media School District (Ranked 27th)
• Penn Wynne School, Lower Merion School District (Ranked 28th)
• Sabold Elementary School, Springfield School District (Ranked 29th)
• Devon Elementary School, Tredyffrin-Easttown School District (Ranked 30th)
• Wallingford Elementary School, Wallingford-Swarthmore School District (Ranked 32nd)
• Fort Washington Elementary School, Upper Dublin School District (Ranked 34th)
• Radnor Elementary School, Radnor Township School District (Ranked 35th)

U.S. News researchers based the 2025 ranking of the nation’s best public elementary schools on publicly available data from the U.S. Department of Education. Elementary schools are considered K-6 in the analysis.

The methodology for the rankings focused on state assessments of students who were proficient or above proficient in math and reading/language arts, while also accounting for students’ background and their achievements in core subjects. Student-teacher ratios were applied to break ties.

The rankings are intended as an evaluation tool to inform parents on how well schools are doing at providing high-equality education and providing students for a successful future, LaMont Jones, managing editor for Education at U.S. News, said in a news release.
