Severe Storms, Potential Tornadoes In Thursday Forecast For Eastern PA

Severe weather could arrive to the Philadelphia region in the afternoon. Here are the details.

There is a risk of severe thunderstorms Thursday that could bring hail, downpours and possibly a tornado to the Philadelphia region, according to the latest forecast.

The day starts off with more "dangerous heat," National Weather Service forecasters said. With mostly sunny skies and "oppressive" dew points, things will be muggy. Temperatures will be in the upper-80s to mid-90s.

A heat advisory will be in effect until 8 p.m. in Philadelphia and Delaware counties, as well as parts of South Jersey, where the heat index could get up to 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Skies will clear by Thursday night, forecasters say. After that, things will get drier and quieter, at least for a bit of time, according to the National Weather Service.

Dangerous heat and humidity is expected to build again by Sunday and into early next week. Forecasters say that heat indices may get up to 95 to 105 degrees, ushering in the first potential heat wave of the year just after Friday's summer solstice.
