Some tomatoes are being recalled in Pennsylvania and nine other states because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.
According to the FDA, Ray & Mascari Inc. is recalling 4 Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes packaged in clam shell containers. The products are 20 oz. with UPC# 7 96553 20062 1, and a master case label with Lot# RM250424 15250B or Lot# RM250427 15250B.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

In rare circumstances, Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.
In addition to Pennsylvania, the recalled tomatoes were sold in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. No illnesses have been reported to date.
