1 Killed, 1 Severely Injured In Whitpain Township Crash Late Monday

It's not yet clear what caused the crash. Stenton Avenue remains shut down to all traffic Tuesday.

WHITPAIN TOWNSHIP, PA — One person was killed and one was severely injured in a single vehicle crash in Whitpain Township late Monday night.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Stenton Avenue and Wickerfield Drive.

Stenton Avenue is closed to all traffic Tuesday morning as the investigation into the accident continues.

It's not yet clear what caused the crash, but police said the vehicle crashed into a utility pole and went up in flames.

One victim, a 33-year-old man who has not yet been publicly identified by police, was found dead at the scene. Another victim, a 31-year-old man, was airlifted to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia where he is being treated.

Authorities said that the Stenton Avenue closure was "neccessary to ensure the investigators' safety and preseve the crash site's integrity for further exmaination."

PECO crews, meanwhile, are on scene working to repair the damaged utility pole.

Whitpain Police and the Montgomery County Detectives Bureau are leading the investigation.
