Affordable Housing Retirement Community To Expand In Montgomery County

The living facility will be specifically designed to promote creative arts for residents with dementia.

SOUDERTON, PA — A nonprofit retirement home in Souderton offering affordable housing to the elderly is expanding its facilities.

Living Branches, based locally on W. Summit Street but with two other locations around the region, held a groundbreaking for its new Health Care and Memory Care unit on Monday.

The addition will create 44 new private rooms and living spaces specifically made for residents with dementia. The facility will be built to incorprate creative arts therapy, which Living Branches says helps seniors "live happier and more meaningful lives."

The expansion is at Souderton Mennonite Homes, which already provides a full range of supportive living services, including health care, personal care, and memory care for residents.

Funding for the project came from the community and local and state government. Several local leaders were in attendance, including State Rep. Steve Malagari and a representative from State Senator Maria Collett’s office.
