Montco Man Shot, Killed After Running At Police With Butcher Knife: DA

Police said the first shot that hit Cholula did not slow him down as he charged.

AMBLER, PA — A man who charged at police officers with a butcher knife in Ambler Saturday night was shot and killed by officers, the district attorney's office said.

The incident occurred at around 7:34 p.m. on Forrest Avenue and School Street.

Police were called to the scene for a "suspicious person" and they found Robert Aguilar Cholula, 43, an Ambler resident, with the knife.

Officers made several commands for Cholula to drop the knife, but he did not comply and then charged toward them, the DA said.

An officer fired one shot, striking Cholula, but it did not slow him down, according to officials. Another officer's second shot proved to be fatal.

Cholula was taken to Jefferson Abington Hospital where he was pronounced dead later Saturday night.

Montgomery County Detectives are investigating, as they do for all officer-involved shootings.
