Blue Bell Woman, Cardiologist, Killed By Her Own Car: Police

Authorities said she was taking items from her vehicle's trunk when the incident occurred.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A Montgomery County woman and cardiologist was killed in an accident involving her own car in Lehigh County.

The incident occurred on the 900 block of Bridge Court in Catasauqua at around 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 4.

Santosh Gupta-Bala, 64, of Blue Bell, was removing items from her vehicle's trunk when the car began roll backward, authorities said.

She tried to get out of the way but was struck, according to a statement from the Lehigh County Coroner's Office.

No other injuries were reported.

Gupta-Balla was a graduate of Medical College of Pennsylvania and worked at Jefferson Hospital.
