Free License Plate Restoration Event To Be Held In Lower Gwynedd

Don't get pulled over — many motorists unknowingly drive illegally with illegible license plates, officials say.

LOWER GWYNEDD, PA — Officials are organizing a free license plate restoration event in Montgomery County for area residents whose plates are fading or peeling.

The event will be held on Saturday, March 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lower Gwynedd Township Police Station in Spring House.

"In Pennsylvania, vehicle owners can be pulled over and fined up to $100 for having a license plate that is deemed illegible," AAA shared. "According to PennDOT, a registration plate is deemed illegible when one or more characters cannot be recognized from 50 feet, or if the registration plate shows any blistering, peeling, discoloration, or loss of reflectivity."
