"A 20 year dream became a reality today," organizers said.
WHITPAIN TOWNSHIP, PA — The greater Whitpain and Ambler areas have a major new nonprofit and community organization operating in the region.
The Wissahickon Valley Boys and Girls Club, part of a national organization that pairs mentors with children and young adults and provides a wide variety of programming, opened up during a special grand opening ceremony on Friday night.
The facility, located within a building named for sponsors Frank and Paige Engro, is on 240 Maple Avenue.

"With incredible community support and perseverance a 20 year dream became a reality today with the official grand opening of the Wissahickon Valley Boys & Girls Club," the Chamber of Commerce of Montgomery County said in a statement. "Congratulations to the leadership team and board of directors for stewarding this project to provide a safe facility for the boys and gives in the Ambler area to learn and have fun."
The Ambler American Legion Post 769 marched down Maple Avenue as part of the celebrations Friday to raise the American flag at the facility for the first time. Whitpain and Lower Gwynedd Police were also in attendance.

Groundbreaking was held on the new 27,000 square foot clubhouse, located on 240 Maple Avenue, in June 2023.
“Our location is in the heart of the community we serve,” Robert K. Kreamer, CEO of North Penn and Wissahickon Valley Boys & Girls Club, said in a statement.
While the facility is new, the organization's presence is not. Boys and Girls has been serving the Ambler area since 2011, and the new facility will allow them to reach even more children. Homework classrooms, a gymnasium, kitchen, games and technology spaces, and outdoor play areas will all be features of the new building.
The national organization, in operation since 1860, has clubs in thousands of communities nationwide.
