Rabid Raccoon Found In Lower Gwynedd, Police Warn
In a warning residents, police urged local residents to exercise increased caution.
LOWER GWYNEDD, PA — A raccoon that was euthanized in Lower Gwynedd Township on Christmas Day has tested positive for rabies, police said.
Authorities issued a warning to the public after the test, urging local residents to be extra careful around wild animals. Rabies is contagious.
"Please do not approach wild animals and exercise caution around wild animals in the area," police said. "If you observe an animal exhibiting signs of illness or injury, please contact the police department immediately."

The Christmas Day incident occurred at around 10 a.m. on the 1700 block of Township Line Road.
Health officials urge any residents who may have been bitten or scratched by any racoon or had any raccoon saliva exposure to seek out medical attention.

"If you, someone in your household, or any of your pets have possibly had contact with a skunk or any other stray or wild animal, immediately call the Montgomery County Office of Public Health, Division of Communicable Disease Control at (610) 278-5117," officials said in a statement.
