Whitpain Man's License Plate Leads to Retail Theft Charge, Police Say

A Whitpain Township man who allegedly stole merchandise from the Giant Food Store on DeKalb Pike has been charged with retail theft after a cognizant employee jotted down his license plate number as he fled the parking lot, police said.
Donovan Ellis, 23, of the 1500 block of Whitpain Hills Drive, described to police as a black man wearing a gray sweatpants and a black hooded sweatshirt, allegedly left the store with a cart full of groceries valued at $214.53, without paying, on Jan. 6 at 5:19 p.m., police said.
An employee ran after Ellis and was able to get his license plate number when he allegedly fled in a black Cadillac, police said.
