Alex Scott was diagnosed with neuroblastoma just before her first birthday. At 4, she told her family she wanted to host a lemonade stand and use the profits to help find a cure for her cancer.

Alex died in 2004 at 8 years old, and in 2005 her family established Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. To date, the foundation has raised more than $300 million and funded 1,500-plus research grants to help kids fight cancer.
