City Ave Lanes Closing Through June 2027, PennDOT Says

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Steel repair and utility construction on City Avenue in Lower Merion Township and Philadelphia will affect traffic for nearly two years, according to PennDOT.

City Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction — 24 hours a day, seven days a week —between Bryn Mawr Avenue in Lower Merion and 47th Street in Philadelphia for various construction activities, including steel repair and utility construction, as part of bridge work.

The 20-month-long lane closures will go into effect Wednesday and last through June 1, 2027, PennDOT said.

Access to businesses in the construction area will be maintained at all times.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because significant backups and delays may occur.

All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

This work is being done under a $22.4 million project to rehabilitate the structure that carries U.S. 1/City Avenue over SEPTA in Lower Merion Township and Philadelphia.
