Emergency Texting Service Coming to Montgomery County

Montgomery County Commissioners approved a contract to implement a text to 911 countywide system.

Montgomery County residents in need of emergency responders will soon have another tool to contact police. According to the Pottstown Mercury, the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners approved a contract last week with a Colorado-based company that will provide the technology and support to allow texting to 911 dispatchers.

For more than $114,000 over five years, Intrado, Inc., will develop, install, test and implement the service, adding Montgomery to a cluster of neighboring counties that will be on similar systems, including Bucks, Berks and Chester, the Mercury reports.

County officials told CBS Philly that the program will hopefully be rolled out in May, with education sessions available for the public.
