Friends' Central Recognizes National Merit Achievers

The following information comes from Friends' Central School:

Friends’ Central School is pleased to announce that 25 percent of the Class of 2014 who took the PSAT during their junior year have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program.

These students were among the more than 1.5 million who took the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Of these, only 50,000 were recognized by the National Merit Program for their high scores. The top 16,000 students were named Semifinalists, while the other 34,000 high performers were named Commended Students. Only Semifinalists have an opportunity to continue in the Merit Scholarship competition and advance to Finalist standing by meeting a number of additional requirements, including SAT scores and high academic record in grades 9-12.

Nine Friends’ Central students were named National Merit Semifinalists. They are: Rohan Alur, Jenna Bergmann, Emily Flick, Ben Kahn, Claudia Kassner, Michael Kleiman, Michael Nguyen, Carlos Price-Sanchez, and Grant Schiller.
