Lankenau Patient Allegedly Steals Van to Escape Hospital

According to reports, the man still had an IV in his arm when he crashed into Indian Creek.

A patient reportedly fled Lankenau Hospital early Thursday morning, an IV still in his arm, only to crash a stolen van a few hundred yards from the Wynnewood hospital.

The patient, whose name was not released, was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with serious injuries, CBS Philly reported.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, The Daily News said. The man, still in his hospital gown, allegedly stole an Aramark delivery van, crashed through a fence and into nearby Indian Creek, The Daily News said.

First responders had to cut away the roof of the van to access the man, CBS said, who was then helicoptered to HUP, The Daily News said.

The hospital “immediately started an internal review of the incident,” a Main Line Health spokeswoman told The Daily News.
