Lower Merion Among Top Public Schools in United States

Lower Merion High School is one of five Pennsylvania schools that made Niche.com's list of top public high schools in the United States.

High achievement with state standards combined with strong online reviews from parents and students helped rank Lower Merion High School as one of the top Pennsylvania public high schools, according to Niche.com.

Lower Merion landed at number 50 in the top 100 high schools in the United States. Conestoga High School in Tredyffrin/Easttown School District was the top Pennsylvania school at number 26. North Allegheny High School (33) in Wexford, Unionville High School (58) in Kennett Square and Upper St. Clair (98) in Pittsburgh are the only other Pennsylvania schools to crack the top 100.

According to Niche.com’s methodology, Lower Merion’s ranking is based on data from the Pennsylvania Department of Education and ratings submitted by students and parents through an online survey. The site says that 87 percent of the 1,259 students at Lower Merion are considered proficient in math and/or reading. The school also received an average of 4.0 out of five stars based on 149 reviews.

A high ranking in Overall Experience generally indicates that:

  • Students are very happy with their experiences in all aspects including academics, teachers, health, safety, resources, facilities, extracurriculars, sports, and fitness;
  • The school is an exceptional academic institution in terms of teachers, students, resources for learning, and student outcomes;
  • The school is made up of a diverse population and fosters an accepting, positive school culture;
  • Students are actively involved in a variety of extracurriculars and sports the school offers.
