Chandeliers, Jewelry Among Items Stolen in 3 Burglaries

Homes in Wynnewood and Haverford were targeted.

At a recent press briefing, Lower Merion Police reported three burglaries within the township, as well as a theft from a home in the Haverford section of Lower Merion.

  • On May 13 at 11:34 a.m., police responded to a report of a burglary on the 200 block of Laurel Lane in Haverford. Police say three large chandeliers and a copper downspout were stolen. On the scene, police spoke with a contractor who was managing work the house was undergoing. He said he left the house on May 10 at the end of the work day, securing all windows and doors behind him. When he returned the following Monday, he noticed damage to the rear door—which police later determined was the point of entry—and concluded property had been stolen.
  • On May 13 at 1:47 p.m., police responded to a security alarm activation on the 1000 block of Indian Creek Road in Wynnewood. Police discovered the glass of the rear door had been smashed, but, after consulting with the resident, determined that nothing had been stolen. Police believe the would-be burglar was scared off by the security alarm.
  • On May 15 at 12:36 p.m., police responded to a burglary on the 200 block of Kent Road in Wynnewood. The homeowner explained that at 10 a.m. she went grocery shopping, locking the doors behind her, but when she returned at 11:45 a.m. she found that the rear door of the home had been broken into. Police say the second floor and the master bedroom had been ransacked, and multiple pieces of jewelry were stolen.
  • On May 14 at 5:06 p.m., police were alerted to a theft from a home on the 300 block of Avon Road in Haverford. According to the resident, a diamond ring and a silverware set had been stolen. The woman said that that evening she discovered the 60 piece silverware set missing from her dinning room, a set that she had last used two weeks before. The woman then told police that a diamond ring of hers had gone missing six months ago, but she assumed her daughter had simply borrowed it and misplaced it until the silverware went missing too. The woman told police that she has had numerous contractors in her home in recent months. An investigation is ongoing.
