String of Bike Thefts Reported in Lower Merion
Five thefts were reported in three days, most occurring in the Wynnewood section of Lower Merion.

Lower Merion police are investigating a string of bike thefts that occurred between April 16 and April 19, most taken from neighborhoods in the Wynnewood section of town.
According to reports from the Lower Merion Police Department, the first incident occurred during the overnight hours between April 16 and April 17 at the 300 block of Cherry Lane in Wynnewood. A girl’s Trek bike and a woman’s Diamondback bike were reported stolen at 8 a.m. Both are valued at $350 each.
A police officer in a neighboring department spotted three juvenile males with bikes that fit the description. The juveniles were stopped and the victim identified the bikes as the ones that were taken, according to police.

Another bike was reported stolen the same night from a home on the 300 block of Penn Road in Wynnewood. Police say a blue Trek bike valued at $400 was sitting on the porch when it was taken.
On April 19, a gray Mongoose bike valued at $200 was reported stolen from the front of the Bala Cynwyd Library at 5 p.m. Another bike was taken on April 19 from the garage of a home on the 300 block of Valley Road in Merion. A witness called police and said he was following three male juveniles that stole the bike, according to the report. Police caught up with the suspects and arrested the juvenile with the bike, the report says.

Finally, a bike was reported missing on April 19 at a home on the 900 block of Cedar Grove Road in Wynnewood, but the owner told police that the theft occurred sometime during the winter. According to police, the bike was last seen in the fall of 2014, but was not discovered missing until last week.
