Lower Merion could see 4 to 6 inches of accumulation over the next 24 hours, the National Weather Service said late Monday night.

Expect “significant impact on morning commute,” the NWS said.

The snow “may fall heavily for a short time overnight before it quickly tapers off during the latter part of Tuesday morning’s commute.”

Temperatures will be more moderate than they were over the weekend, with highs in the 20s on Tuesday and lows in the teens Tuesday night.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for the region.

Here’s the hour-by-hour forecast, according to the National Weather Service:

  • Monday night: Snow. Low around 11. Calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
  • Tuesday: Snow likely, mainly before 10 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 24. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than 1 inch possible.
  • Tuesday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the evening.
  • Wednesday: A chance of snow showers, mainly after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. Light and variable wind becoming west 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
  • Wednesday night: A chance of snow showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 6. West wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
