Double Vacancy: What Should Replace Belmont Avenue Ex-Gas Stations?

Today, we're spotlighting two vacant gas stations, across the street from each other at Belmont Avenue and Rock Hill Road.

closed in November on the east side of Belmont. The station on the southwest corner of the Rock Hill Road intersection has been closed for years; Lower Merion Township bought the property in 2007.

A developer's proposal to at the southwest corner has met resistance from township officials.

That property's tax assessment is $380,040. The Riggins property, currently fenced up, is assessed at $153,260.
