Gas Leak Confirmed on Narberth Avenue

PECO plans to begin repairs Wednesday.

A slow gas leak has been identified on North Narberth Avenue, and repairs will start Wednesday, assistant borough manager Fred Hansell said Monday.

The leak was discovered about a week ago when the smell of gas was noticed in the area, Hansell said. PECO does not consider a leak of its magnitude imminently dangerous and is not required to repair it before 100 days after its discovery, but "they've moved it up as a higher priority because it is in the downtown area," Hansell said.

PECO will be responsible for repaving the street after the repairs, Hansell said. It is not yet known how long the repairs will take.
