Thieves Hit Liquor Store, CVS

City Avenue retail businesses were targeted on back-to-back days, police said.

Lower Merion police on Monday afternoon reported two retail thefts in Bala Cynwyd from the previous week.

A man and woman stole a bottle of E&J brandy from the store about 8:50 p.m. July 3, police said. The woman had put two bottles in her purse, and when a clerk who had seen her put one of them in the purse asked her to remove it, she did, then left with the other bottle without paying, police said. She and her companion drove away and have not been apprehended.

Then about 7:30 p.m. July 4, a man and woman stole two $149 televisions with built-in DVD players from , police said. The woman distracted a clerk while the man carried the TVs over top of the security sensors and left the store. He was described as black, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 250 to 300 pounds; she was described as black, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and 170 to 200 pounds. They fled in a gray Pontiac Grand Prix, police said.
