With No Cellphones Allowed at Merion, Spectators Resort to...Landlines?

In 2013, people waited in line in a public place to use a telephone. A historic moment.

Golf is an old fashioned sport, it's part of the game's charm.

But even amidst the throwback feel of this weekend's 113th U.S. Open, there was no more old fashioned sight than this: people queued up in line, waiting to use landline telephones.

Because Merion Golf Club wasn't allowing cellphones into the tournament, it set up a stand in its vast hospitality area to accomodate spectators who needed to make phones calls. On Friday afternoon, the three phones were in near constant use.

What was your favorite aspect of last weekend's U.S. Open? (Was it the phones?) Tell us about it in the comments below.
