100 People Charged, Guns And Drugs Seized In Philly Region 'Sweep'

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A drug trafficking crackdown in three counties has led to the arrest of 100 people, 12 firearms seized, and over $365,000 in narcotics being confiscated, authorities said.

"Operation Clean Sweep" — a targeted law enforcement collaboration between authorities in Bucks, Montgomery, and Delaware counties and Philadelphia — netted 100 arrests, and 12 illegal firearms seized.

Authorities also said large quantities of fentanyl/heroin, methamphetamines, cocaine/crack cocaine, PCP, oxycodone, suboxone, Xanax, psilocybin mushrooms, codeine, and marijuana were also confiscated.

The "sweep" took place in September and October, Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday said during a press conference on Monday.

Local law enforcement, along with Pennsylvania State Police, targeted illegal drugs coming from the Kensington section of Philadelphia into the three counties.

Authorities did not provide the charges the suspects face or where they were from.

“For too long, Philadelphia has been the epicenter for the supply of dangerous drugs, but we recognize that the counties surrounding Philadelphia — Montgomery, Bucks, and Delaware counties— are also part of the problem,” Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said during the press conference.

"Operation Clean Sweep" involved detectives from all three counties and police departments in Bensalem, Lower Southampton, Abington, Cheltenham, Lower Merion, Lower Moreland, Nether Providence, Springfield Township, Upper Darby, Upper Merion, Upper Moreland, and Whitemarsh Township.
