Bensalem Drama Club Shines at Thespian Conference

Three students were especially recognized.

All the world is a stage, and thirty-three Drama Club players shone brightly at this year’s Pennsylvania Thespian Conference held at North Penn High School from Dec. 1-3.

According to a  release, students viewed and critiqued one act and main stage performances, participated in acting, singing, costuming, and designing workshops, and performed a one-act comedy entitled Saturday Matinee. The show was well received and the respondents praised the students for their characterization, interpretation, and ability to work together as a true ensemble.

In the usual Bensalem theatrical tradition, students displayed their Bensalem pride and talents with multiple successes:

  • Junior Jeff Gorti was selected to be the assistant choreographer for a production number from Memphis, which was performed Saturday evening.
  • Sammi Begelman received multiple honors for her ineffable talents:  Induction into the Thespian Hall of Fame, for her dedication to theatre for four years; All Star Cast/Best Performer (for the third year) in her role of Alice in Saturday Matinee; and most impressively, Sammi was one of three recipients to receive a $500. PA Thespian Scholarship for her two-minute Drowsy Chaperone song and dance performance.
  • The curtain closed on the conference with an announcement that Harley Steiger would be honoring Bensalem High School by serving as one of eight PA State Board Members who will be organizing next year’s conference being held at Central York High School.

The Drama Club wanted to offer special thanks to chaperones Kim Bantle-Taylor, Wendy Gorti, Betsy Steiger-teacher, Sean Hicks - NTA, theatrical alumnus, Josh Albert, and Hall of Fame Thespian Administrator, Leonore Hope.  The Bensalem High School Drama Club is sponsored by Anna Hentz, PA Thespian Troupe Sponsor 5417 and PA State Thespian Secretary.
