Bensalem Mayor Speaks Out On Re-Election Win

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo — Bucks County's longest-serving mayor — spoke out about his re-election victory in last week's general election.

The 88-year-old mayor held off a challenge from Democrat Stephanie Gonzalez Ferrandez, a Bensalem school director, to win his election and extend his term of running the township for 32 years.

But while DiGirolamo won, the township's Republican stronghold slipped as three Democrats won council seats to take a 3-2 majority on the board.

The mayor posted a video on the Bensalem Township Facebook page to speak to residents about the election victory.

"I want to thank the record-number of voters who came out on Election Day," DiGirolamo said. "I am truly humbled by the way I was voted back in. As I said during the campaign, I'm not done yet. I'm really looking forward to working with Council as we have done in the past to make Bensalem a great place to live and a great place to raise a family. Hopefully, as a township, we can continue all of the great things we have accomplished in the future."

Democrats in Bensalem accomplished a sweep this election that hadn't been done in years.

Ed Tokmajian, Jesse Sloane, and Joseph Wenzel Jr. won council seats. Meanwhile, four Democrats were elected to the school board: Kate Pascucci, Leann Hart, Rachel Fingles, and Rodger Allen.

Sloane, Wenzel Jr., and Tokmajian will be replacing GOP Councilwomen Stacey Champion and Michelle Benitez. Longtime Councilman Joseph Pilieri did not seek re-election.
