Bucks Co. Coronavirus Cases Show More Signs Of Leveling Off

After the lowest four-day total of new cases since March, Bucks reported just 31 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — New cases of the coronavirus in Bucks County continued to show signs of leveling off on Wednesday, with 31 new infections reported.

That comes after the Bucks County Department of Health reported the county's lowest four-day total of cases since March. Between Saturday and Tuesday, there were just 103 new cases reported in the county.

Nine new deaths from the virus were reported on Wednesday. Two of them happened Wednesday, officials said, while the others happened at least a week ago and one more than a month ago. Six of them were residents of long-term health facilities and all had underlying health conditions, officials said.

Of the 31 new cases, just seven were attributed to community spread, when the sick person does not know where or when they caught the virus. Seven were residents or employees of long-term care facilities, five were infected through household contact, three were from healthcare jobs, three were at other workplaces and one was a prison inmate.

Five of the newly infected people weren't able to be reached by county researchers.

In another milestone of sorts, fewer than 100 people were hospitalized in Bucks County with the virus on Wednesday for the first time in weeks. There were 97 patients hospitalized, with 20 of them in critical condition and on ventilators.

In all, 4,699 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Bucks County, with 445 deaths and 1,492 confirmed to have recovered.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf announced on Friday that all counties that are still under the red phase of his reopening plan are scheduled to move to yellow by June 4. Under the yellow phase, most businesses that are now closed will be allowed to reopen with certain safety restrictions.
