Bensalem School Bus Violation 'Hot Spots' Revealed

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — Now that school has started, the Bensalem Township Police Department will be cracking down on drivers who illegally pass school buses.

Bensalem Police and the Bensalem Township School District are continuing their partnership to cite vehicles that fail to stop for the flashing red signals on school buses.

The program has reduced the number of violations by more than 17 percent since it launched.

Bensalem Police said they issued over 5,000 civil violations during the 2024-2025 school year.

Police and school officials said the numbers remain too high, with children still at risk.

"When the lights on a school bus flash yellow, you should hit your brakes to slow down and be prepared to stop," police said. "When the lights turn flashing red, your vehicle must stop immediately before passing the school bus."

Police said they are targeting specific "hot spots" for the illegal activity on Knights Road between Street Road and Dunksferry Road, as well as Bristol Pike between Hulmeville Road and Tennis Avenue.

The penalty is a $300 civil violation issued to the vehicle owner failing to stop, police said. The violation does not have any points on a driver's license and doesn't impact car insurance.
